PRSA Gulfstream President's Message - Summer 2010

Summer 2010 President's Message
Dear Members,
Thank you for the opportunity to serve the Gulfstream Chapter as your president in 2010. As the year is winding down, I look back on the goals the board set for the chapter at the beginning of the year and I am proud of what we have accomplished together.
APR: Thanks to Ellen Schulman and Joy Satterlee who led so many of our members through the APR classes and readiness reviews. Many thanks to our senior professionals who stepped in to teach these classes including, Cathy Ahles, APR, Fellow PRSA; Gary Brooten, APR; Debbie Mason, APR, Fellow PRSA and Merrie Meyers-Kershaw, APR, Fellow PRSA. If you were not able to take advantage of the APR workshops this year, put it on your schedule for next year. And don't forget we are offering scholarships to our members. Make 2011 the year to get your APR!
Membership: Carrie Goldstein, APR, led the membership team this year and together they came up with some fabulous benefits for our members, such as reducing the price of meetings to $15 making it imminently more affordable to attend. The team has reviewed our member surveys in depth to ensure next year we offer the programs and professional development opportunities you want.
Networking: This year's networking events have been great. From the happy hour hosted at NSU's flight deck after the K.D. Paine presentation, to the Practitioner's Roundtable and the very successful "Communicators" event. And there are more! Mark your calendars for our Holiday Party on December 16 at the Hollywood Arts and Culture Center where we will induct our new board members for 2011.
New Board: And now it is with great pleasure that I present our recommended board for 2011. Should you have any questions or concerns about this slate, or should you wish to nominate yourself or someone else for a position, please contact me immediately at president@prsagulfstream.org.
President: Carrie Goldstein, APR
President Elect and Programming Chair: Ken Ma
1st Year Director and Sponsorship Chair: Gary Brooten, APR
2nd Year Director and Communications Chair: Susie Gilden
3rd Year Director and Membership Chair: Allen Siegel
Assembly Delegate One: Brandon Hensler
Assembly Delegate Two: Merrie Meyers-Kershaw, APR, Fellow PRSA
Treasurer: Jennifer Evans Beard
Secretary: Michael Maucker
Past President and Scholarship Chair: Kim Laffont, APR
Again, I thank you for the opportunity to serve the chapter. As you know we have a great line up of programs for the remainder of the year, including:

October 21 at 12 noon: Discussion of online privacy issues with Bridget Carey of The Miami Herald at JM Family Enterprises.
November 18 at 12 noon: "Learning from BP, Tiger, and Toyota. Common Mistakes in Crisis Handling" with Virgil Scudder. Location TBA.
December 16 at 6 p.m.: Annual Holiday Party and Induction at the Hollywood Arts and Culture Center.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our events!
Kim Laffont, PRSA Gulfstream Chapter President
