SPX Corporation has retained Campbell\Carlson to conduct a search for the position of Manager, External Communications and Public Relations based in the corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC. SPX (http://www.spx.com) (NYSE:SPW) is a dynamic $4.85 billion Fortune 500 multi-industry manufacturer with over 15,000 employees in more than 35 countries.
This is an exciting professional growth opportunity. The manager will have a key role in a lean, three-person team and will report to the Chief Communications Officer, who reports to the CEO. The manager will be responsible for top-level external strategic communications issues, providing communication support for C-level leaders and business units around the world.
SPX is a fast-paced environment in which the manager will handle multiple responsibilities and tasks simultaneously and be prepared to react to external events on a 24-hour worldwide clock. Flexibility and the ability to prioritize will be essential aptitudes. The manager will support the team objectives and collaborate and pinch hit as necessary to achieve superior team performance.
In the first twelve months, the manager will be expected to:
* Rapidly develop relationships with 18 business unit communications and other key contacts and an understanding of their businesses and objectives sufficient to effectively manage and provide news and communication services for the business units and for corporate executives.
* Evaluate the current global news operation, identify ways to improve it, and provide a comprehensive recommendation for changes, including milestones and a budget.
* Concurrently, assume management and production of daily news operation and major elements of SPX global external communications-research, writing, approval, and timely dissemination.
* Develop, including milestones and budget, and successfully implement a web-based legally compliant news release system and process including a message library ensuring consistency of communications.
The ideal candidate will be qualified by:
* Excellent writing and communication skills and recent experience writing superior news releases, speeches, talking points, and presentations.
* A minimum of eight recent years' successful experience providing PR and communications for large, diverse corporation(s) either directly or in an agency. Business-to-business communication experience is critical.
* Bachelor's degree in journalism or related major.
* Excellent understanding of media relations-business, financial, trade, and on-line/social.
* PRSA accreditation is a plus.
